Governors

Resources & Information for School Governors

The TRC oversees the appointment of over 1,500 governors to controlled schools in Northern Ireland. Transferor governors are nominated by a wide range of nominating persons and bodies from the Church of Ireland, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches that include local clergy/ministers, local churches, charities, education trusts, church area bodies, and central church boards. The TRC has an oversight role in the nominations but does not make them. The remainder of transferor representatives comprise governors in schools that are not transferred or do not supersede any other school. Some church representatives may also be nominated by the Department of Education, the Education Authority, or the Board of Governors itself.
